Today begins my third year of working with the brilliant First Story. This year I will be writer-in-residence at Skegness Academy and our first workshop is set to take place this afternoon. I can honestly say my work with First Story is the best and most important part of my working week. Seriously life-changing stuff for everyone who takes part. You can find out all about First Story’s work putting writers into schools on the website.
Last week, in tandem with the excellent Young Writers’ Festival that took place in Oxford, First Story launched their Autumn Appeal to raise £7000. This amount will help support writing programmes with professional writers in over 70 schools across the country including:
* Weekly creative-writing workshops for 21 students per school
* Writing events at local cultural venues
* The annual First Story Young Writers’ Festival
* Competitions
* Publication in an anthology
